Cursus is built to work without an account, a login, or a payment method, and this policy reflects that: there is very little of yours for us to hold onto in the first place. This page explains, plainly, what happens to information as you use the app.
Cursus doesn't have user accounts, so we don't collect names, emails, or passwords through normal use of the tool. The information that passes through the app is:
Career Path's "Share progress" option lets you share a private link to your progress (see below) — that stays exactly as it always has. Separately, and only if you check the box for it, you can also add your progress to a public gallery at /gallery that anyone can browse. This is opt-in and off by default; nothing is added to the gallery unless you explicitly choose to.
You can also share your actual route into a career — the steps you took, plus optional details: highest degree, major, number of internships, first job title, location and key skills. A route is only accepted if you confirm it's your own and agree to it being shown publicly, and it's counted in the anonymous "common patterns" summaries shown for that career. Please don't include other people's names or any contact details.
If you opt in, we store: a display name you type in (defaults to "Someone" if you leave it blank — never your account, since there isn't one), your target career, your progress summary and score, and a salted, one-way hash of your IP address that we use only to cap how many times one visitor can submit per day. The raw IP address is never stored and never shown to anyone. A gallery entry is a snapshot at the moment you share it — it isn't edited or updated later, and there's no way to delete it yourself since there's no account to prove it's yours; email us at the address below and we'll remove it.
Cursus keeps everything about your progress in your browser's local storage, not in a database we run — your grade level, school, and major selections; any Career Path you generate, along with which steps you've checked off; job applications you log in a Job Tracker; and calendar deadlines you add. This data stays on your device — it is never transmitted to us or stored on our servers — and you can clear it any time by clearing your browser's site data for this page, or from the relevant "delete" or "start over" control in the app.
The one exception is if you choose to use "Share progress" on Career Path: that encodes a summary of your progress (career, overview, phase completion) into the link itself, so that whoever you send it to can view it. Nothing is uploaded to a server or made discoverable by anyone else — the link only works for people you actually send it to, and only shows what was true at the moment you generated it.
The Cursus app is the same site as usecursus.com, running inside a native wrapper — it doesn't collect anything the website doesn't. The one addition is reminders: if you add a deadline to Cursus Calendar (directly, or from Job Tracker or a Career Path step), the app can schedule a local notification on your device for the day before. That reminder is scheduled and delivered entirely on your device through iOS/Android's own notification system — it is never sent to us or any server, and you can turn it off at any time in your device's notification settings.
Cursus is built with high school students in mind. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, and the app doesn't ask for a name, birthdate, or contact information at any point. If you're a parent or guardian with a concern, reach out using the contact info below.
If Cursus adds accounts, payments, or other features that change what data we handle, this page will be updated before those features launch, and the "last updated" date above will change.
