Privacy Policy

Last updated August 19, 2026

Cursus is built to work without an account, a login, or a payment method, and this policy reflects that: there is very little of yours for us to hold onto in the first place. This page explains, plainly, what happens to information as you use the app.

What we collect

Cursus doesn't have user accounts, so we don't collect names, emails, or passwords through normal use of the tool. The information that passes through the app is:

  • Search input — the school and major names you search for or select, sent to our server so it can look up real data.
  • Optional free text — if you use the AI essay or resume coach, the text you paste in is sent to our server and then to Anthropic's API to generate feedback. Don't paste anything there you wouldn't want processed by a third-party AI model.

What we don't do

  • We don't operate a database of users or their searches — nothing you enter is stored on our servers after the response is sent back to you.
  • We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
  • We don't sell or share your data with data brokers or advertisers, because we don't have any to sell.

What's stored locally, on your device

To save you from re-entering your grade level, school, and major every time you open the app, Cursus stores that selection in your browser's local storage. This data stays on your device — it is never transmitted to us or anyone else, and you can clear it any time by clearing your browser's site data for this page, or from the "Start over" control in the app.

Third parties we send data to

  • U.S. Dept. of Education College Scorecard API — receives the school/major names you search for, to return real earnings, debt, and tuition data.
  • Anthropic API — receives the context needed to generate AI content (career paths, roadmap, coaching feedback, comparisons). See Anthropic's privacy policy for how they handle that data.
  • Vercel — our hosting provider, which processes standard web server logs (like IP address and request timing) as part of running the app.

Children's privacy

Cursus is built with high school students in mind. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, and the app doesn't ask for a name, birthdate, or contact information at any point. If you're a parent or guardian with a concern, reach out using the contact info below.

Changes to this policy

If Cursus adds accounts, payments, or other features that change what data we handle, this page will be updated before those features launch, and the "last updated" date above will change.
